I have a small well equipped Pilates studio in North Abingdon. Joseph Pilates designed a number of pieces of large apparatus incorporating springs, pulleys and moveable platforms in variety of ways. The reformer with tower and stability chair used in the studio are extremely versatile pieces of equipment. Exercising on the equipment enables you to feel more easily what you are trying to achieve thereby developing your body awareness. With this awareness you may then improve your strength and movement with greater efficiency. By varying resistance altering spring tension you can choose to challenge strength or stability.
You do not need to have any previous Pilates experience in order to do Studio Pilates. Exercising on the equipment is appropriate to everyone, the beauty of the equipment is that it can enable the instructor to develop an exercise programme appropriate to a wide variety of needs. The benefits of the Pilates equipment are increasingly being recognised by professional sports teams and is used by many to get their players back to fitness following injury and to improve their core stability which helps to guard against future injury as well as improve power and performance.
