Group Classes

Matwork classes are held at several venues in the Abingdon - Oxford area. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 10 but generally you will find yourself in a group of 6-8. Groups of this size not only allow adequate supervision but also tend to have a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

Matwork classes incorporate the use of small equipment such as flex bands, soft balls, therapy balls, rings, rollers and stability discs.

I teach a contemporary form of Pilates so occassionally mix the exercises developed by Joseph Pilates with aspects taken from other closely related disciplines such as Physiotherapy, Developmental movement, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais.

Most of my classes cater for a mixed ability teaching mostly low load exercises and focussing on postural control of movement aiming to improve strength, coordination and flexibilty. This level of work is effective for most people: current thinking suggests that it may be a weakness in the deep postural muscles and an inability to stabilise the spine at low load which contributes to back pain in the general population and recurrent injury in sportspeople.

Many people find Pilates a great way of keeping themselves moving comfortably so they can continue an active lifestyle.

Group Classes are a great way of practicing the Pilates method in a more cost effective and social environment, however if you have aims or needs which need to be dealt with on an individual basis then a One to One session would be more appropriate and efffective.
